London may be a top destination for tourists and locals alike, but that doesn’t mean we don’t occasionally need to escape the city. We are now well into the new year, and it may be prudent to plan your travels for the year 2023.

There are numerous undiscovered gems in the United Kingdom that make wonderful weekend getaways from the bustle of city life. This year, why not take a staycation or a day trip to a picturesque village about two and a half hours from the capital? Although relatively unknown, this village has been recognised as one of the most beautiful in the nation.

Only about 160 people call the small village of Snowshill in Gloucestershire home. It’s a small town in the Cotswolds that doesn’t get as many tourists as some of the other attractions in the region, but it still has plenty to offer. Its natural beauty and commanding vistas over the Severn Vale have made it famous.

Snowshill Manor, a National Trust property open to the public, is the top attraction. It is a collection of furniture, toys, bicycles, and armour amassed by English architect and craftsman Charles Paget Wade between 1900 and 1951.

It had fallen into disrepair, but Charles brought it back to its former glory. Unconventional features of the Arts and Crafts Garden include a model village and a series of outdoor rooms with unusual doorways. This manor and its gardens are closed until the spring. The price of a general admission ticket ranges from £13 for adults to £6.50 for children and £32.50 for a family of four.

Each admission grants you entry to the garden, the first floor of the Priest’s House (Cottage), the gift shop, the used bookstore, and the café. Snowshill Lavender, a farm with 70 acres of lavender fields, is also beautiful and worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Here you can shop for lavender goods, plants, and handicrafts made in the area. This is a summer option, as they will reopen on June 14 and remain open until August 6. According to the site, tickets will be available for purchase at the door.

The Snowshill Arms, located in the heart of the village, is the primary establishment for food and drink. This historic English country inn was built in the 15th century and still serves as a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Pub grub, house specials, and beers from a local Worcester brewery are all on the menu.

More restaurants, such as the five-star Russel’s of Broadway, can be found in the nearby Broadway village.
